Base pay is only one part of total compensation at BART. Depending on the job and bargaining unit, compensation can also include premium pay, overtime, paid leave, healthcare coverage and retirement benefits.
Wages and negotiated increases
BART’s FY26 adopted budget put gross wages at $542.0 million. The budget said a majority of staff are represented by labor unions and that collective bargaining agreements determine wage increases for those employees.
Overtime
The FY26 gross overtime budget was $79.7 million. Overtime costs vary with service needs, vacancies, maintenance work and the terms of labor agreements. A budget figure is not the same thing as an individual employee’s expected overtime.
Retirement and healthcare
BART lists CalPERS pension coverage as part of its employee benefits package, along with medical, vision and dental coverage. Exact employee costs and eligibility can vary by classification, bargaining unit and current plan terms.
